Hardwood — teak especially — is beautiful and virtually indestructible if it's FSC-certified and properly finished. It's heavy, which is actually fine since you don't really want your garden table blowing away in September. Oil it annually and it'll outlast most things in your home. Think About How You Actually Use Your Garden

That sounds obvious, but it's worth five minutes of honest reflection. Do you mostly eat outside? Then prioritise the table and chairs, and don't compromise on seat comfort — slatted hardwood chairs look wonderful but after ninety minutes of dinner they become less enjoyable.
