Quality wheels are smooth-rolling, quiet, and mounted on reinforced housings that withstand the continuous stress of rolling over airport floors, pavement seams, and cobblestones. Budget wheels are noisy, stiff, and mounted in housings that crack or detach after limited use. Replaceable wheels — where the wheel unit can be swapped out if damaged — extend the trolley bag's useful life significantly, because wheel failure is the most common mechanical issue and replacing a £10 wheel is vastly preferable to replacing a £150 suitcase.
